The Bioinformatics Core (BIC) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City (Manhattan) is seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer to perform traditional and next-generation sequence data processing and analysis in a dynamic and exciting academic environment at the nexus of cancer biology, computer science, statistics and clinical research. Work will be performed in a small group atmosphere (approx. 12 members from diverse disciplines) with several active collaborators, and in concert with other Bioinformatics and Software Engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop software and databases as parts of bioinformatics data processing and analysis systems. Particular focus will be traditional and next-generation sequence processing and analysis.
- Consult with members of the research group to determine their computational and bioinformatics needs. Analyze biomedical data and address scientific problems using bioinformatics techniques and tools.
- Train researchers in the use of computational and bioinformatics tools in group or one-on-one training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree, or equivalent, and 5 years of Bioinformatics software development, required.
- Strong analytic skills, experience with bioinformatics methods, databases, software and computer programming languages are essential.
- Experience with sequence assembly preferred. Experience with nextgeneration sequence data processing and analysis desirable.
- Advanced skills in SQL and Perl; working knowledge of Python preferred.
BIC facilitates scientific discoveries by supporting basic and clinical research groups. BIC is responsible for building training programs, research project support, web-based tools, a high performance computing facility and database integration of genomic, pathway and clinical information.
